Daily life in Nata

Cleaning_the_stomache_and_intestine

While most people in the developed world buy their beef wrapped in plastic at the local supermarket, many Nata residents still have to rely on their skills of slaughtering animals to put beef on the table. The two men pictured above are cleaning the stomache and intestines of a slaughtered cow. Many people enjoy the intestines cooked in a nice gravy served over maize meal porridge. It's a common sight to walk through the village and see people slaughtering animals. It is usually accompanied by a pack of hungry dogs hoping to get a fallen tidbit. Botswana exports a great deal of beef. It is of excellent quality and we get to enjoy it here in Nata at a very reduced price. The interesting thing is that ground beef and filet mingon both sell for the same price here in Nata... about U.S. $1.50 per pound. Prices are much higher in the cities. Another good reason to live in Nata.
