Life and death at Nata Clinic

Nata Clinic was packed today. The morning started off to a tragic start. We
lost a 22 year old female to AIDS. She had yet to begin the ARV's as she
didn't have a national identity card. The family brought her to the clinic
in a weakened condition and she died before being transported to the
hospital. It's difficult to know who is at fault for this situation. We
know that if a person does not have an Omang (national identity card) they
can get one quite easily. Government officials even make rounds to the
small villages to register people on a regular basis. It's an unnecessary
loss of life that is difficult for us to take. We were so full today that
Sr. Nurse Gaokwale used the office to administer vaccinations. We are lucky
to have most of the major vaccines. Today Gaokwale gave measles, polio,
tetanus and diphtheria.
How sad! Just because she didn't have a national identity card, she lost her life. It's difficult to take that.
